Events that build the culture
We never underestimate the value of the camaraderie within the Barry Plant Group.
Big as we are, we have the culture of a small boutique network. Because our offices don’t compete with each other, everyone is prepared to generously share their knowledge, lend a hand and network freely. This often happens naturally as a result of so many people attending our training courses, but we also arrange several large events each year where people can get together and enjoy themselves.
The sense of family means that we have far less turnover of staff than other groups. People want to stay with us. And we want to keep them.
The Awards for Excellence are the premier event in The Barry Plant Group calendar. It is an unashamed celebration of success where our top individual performers and offices are recognised. It is a glamorous occasion that includes a three course dinner and drinks
Annual Family Picnic
This very popular event is held in December at Moonee Valley Racecourse. It’s a big “thank you” to all the families for their support throughout the year. The day’s activities are organised for the attendees and include presents for all the children from Father Christmas. All Barry Plant employees and their families are welcome.
To foster excellence in auctioneering in the company, every year we hold a competition for Auctioneers which is divided into Novice, Intermediate and Senior levels. Every auctioneer in the company is strongly encouraged to participate as we have a requirement that every auctioneer is regularly accredited to our standards, this is an excellent opportunity to be assessed by an independent panel of judges drawn from within the real estate industry.
Annual Leadership Conference
Every year there is a week-long Principals’ Conference. It is usually held in a warm destination alternating between Australia and overseas. The format of the conference is two days of conferencing where world experts in real estate and lifestyle/motivation address the attendees. There are organised functions where there is plenty of opportunity to network within the group and amongst peers. Partners and children are strongly encouraged to attend.
Professional Women in Real Estate (PWIRE)
The Barry Plant Professional Women in Real Estate Network is an initiative which commenced in 2005 and sees the women within the Barry Plant network come together three times a year for a luncheon. The functions provide the perfect arena for the ladies to network and discuss challenges they may be experiencing in their working lives. There is also a guest speaker who may or may not discuss topics which are real estate specific. A quarterly newsletter is also produced and distributed to women within the network.

The main beneficiary of the Barry Plant Charity Fund is Make-A-Wish Australia – an organisation that works to grant cherished wishes to children with life-threatening illnesses.
In October 2015, Barry Plant introduced Wishtober – a month where offices donate an amount from the commission on all properties sold to Make-A-Wish. Head Office also contributes to the cause. For the last two years we have been able to donate over $100,000 to Make-A-Wish.
Future Leaders Conference
The Barry Plant Future Leaders conference is an overnight seminar which is held at different conference venues throughout Victoria. The conference commences at lunch time on Sunday and concludes Monday afternoon. The sessions are workshop based and provide the ideal atmosphere for salespeople from all offices to network and establish relationships with one another. Sessions may also include panels made up of people from different areas of the business who impart the knowledge in their individual area of expertise. Delegates enjoy a private dinner together on Sunday evening which also provides the opportunity to socialise with peers away from the office.
The Oak Club is an exclusive club consisting of those Barry Plant employees who have worked for the Group for ten years or more. Every second year these people and their partners attend an exclusive dinner where those employees who have reached ten years service in the intervening two years are inducted and welcomed into The Oak Club.
Annual Golf Day
Our annual golf day is generally held at the beautiful Heritage Golf and Country Club in the Yarra Valley. Management, staff and corporate guests are invited to take part in this event. Following the round of golf, participants join together for drinks and canapes where trophies and prizes are presented.
The Diamond Club is a unique group comprising of Barry Plant’s top performing sales people. Each year, members of the Diamond Club are announced at the Awards for Excellence. To become a member of the club, sales people are required to reach a benchmark in gross commission earned. This benchmark can change from year to year depending on the market. Sponsored by Mercedes Benz Melbourne, members of the Diamond Club attend four exclusive functions a year as recognition of their outstanding achievement.
