Showstopping sustainable home hits the market in the Yarra Valley

An eco-friendly haven in a tranquil Toolangi setting is catching the eye of buyers wanting a tree-change.

Set against a serene backdrop of towering eucalypts, the MillBuilt timber and steel home makes a striking statement on a sprawling 3436sq m block at 20 Cherrys Lane.

It is the creation of Melbourne builders Daniel and Jamie Pobjoy, who design and build modular homes to a whole new level.

Together they have pioneered and perfected a better way to build sustainable eco-friendly homes that are safer, stronger and spatially ingenious.

Priced at $960,000-$1.04 million, the home offers a chance to be one with nature, according to Barry Plant Croydon/Yarra Glen agent Sarah Savio.

“This is the ideal lifestyle property for those longing to live or work in a serene environment, ” she said.

“We have had many inquiries from city buyers, young families, retirees and downsizers.”

Ms Savio has sold half a dozen MillBuilt homes to satisfied clients who love the quality-built sustainable dwellings that are chic, functional and nestled in peaceful settings.

“Since they started in 2016, the Pobjoys have built a good reputation for their detailed craftsmanship,” she said.

“And I’d say this is their best offering so far.”

The homes have been created with the environment in mind and every effort has been made to use materials that are sustainably sourced from Australian plantation timber, which can be recycled at the end of their lifespan.

Comprising three modular sections with steel frames and Colorbond steel roofs and walls, the property in Cherrys Lane co-exists perfectly with its surroundings.

Solid engineered or reclaimed timbers form the decks, floors, skirting boards and architraves, while double glazed and argon-filled picture windows adorn feature pine walls.

There are three bedrooms with ceiling fans, including the main suite with a walk-in robe and an ensuite, plus a fully tiled main bathroom.

There is no stinting on space in the lounge and dining area, where split-system airconditioning and a fireplace provide year-round comfort.

A stunning kitchen will please the home-chef with its Bosch appliances, large island bench, stylish cabinets with stone benchtops, double farmhouse style sink and drop pendant lighting.

Thoughtfully designed to cater to most needs, the floorplan includes a space with a bedroom, study nook, lounge area and bathroom.

“This is ideal as a studio, home office, accommodation for extended family or guests, or even an AirBnb,” Ms Savio said.

And those who enjoy entertaining will appreciate the glass sliding doors that open to the back veranda and patio with views of native bushland.

“It’s a great indoor-outdoor lifestyle,” Ms Savio said.

“And the reasonably flat block with a big vegie patch and landscaped gardens allows children or pets to play in privacy, yet within view.”

Toolangi is located on the edge of the state forest with magnificent mountain ash and messmate trees, and breathtaking viewing areas, including the Mt St Leonard lookout.

There are spectacular bush tracks, including the Forest Sculpture Trail, which takes works by sculptors of international repute.

“Shops and schools are not far away in Yarra Glen and Healesville,” Ms Savio added.
