About Airport West

Close to the city, Airport West is located 11 km north-west of Melbourne and approximately a 20 minute drive to the CBD

Within the City of Moonee Valley local government area, Airport West is a suburb of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, 12 kilometres northwest of the city's CBD. 8,173 people were residing in Airport West as of the 2021 census. Neighbouring suburbs include Keilor Park, Keilor East and Niddrie. Bounded by the Calder Freeway, Tullamarine Freeway and Western Ring Road, it is a well-established suburb showcasing a range of homes from older style to new homes and stylish townhouse developments.

Located to the west of Essendon Airport, Melbourne's first general airport, which is now used for light aircraft, charter flights, and freight since Melbourne Airport, which is situated to the north of the suburb, opened in 1970, Airport West is bordered by the Calder Freeway to the south, the Tullamarine Freeway to the east, and the Western Ring Road to the north-west.

A shopper's dream, DFO is close by, as well as Westfield Shopping Town and the popular Essendon Fields café and shopping centre. Plus the delights of Keilor Road’s latte lifestyle society at your fingertips.

A shopping centre called Westfield Airport West was constructed in the suburb's northernmost section. It had its initial opening in 1976 and had renovations in 1982 and 1999. Target, Kmart, Coles, Woolworths, Aldi, and a Village Cinemas complex are among its tenants. On McNamara Avenue, there are also further shopping centres in the neighbourhood. Due to its closeness to Essendon Airport, Melbourne Airport, and the recently constructed DFO, the area is home to several light industrial, manufacturing, and freight firms.
