ABOUT VENUS BAY

Approximately 173 km southeast of Melbourne, Venus Bay is a coastal township located on a narrow peninsula in South Gippsland, bordered by Bass Strait to the west and Anderson’s Inlet to the east.

This relaxed seaside suburb attracts retirees and couples, with a median age of around 58 years. The local community is tight‑knit and values conservation, with large areas designated for public conservation and resource, as well as farming and township use. During peak holiday periods, the population swells as visitors arrive for surfing, nature walks and beach holidays.

The suburb is informally divided into three estates. The First Estate is the hub of activity, with the only shopping strip featuring a general store, café, pharmacy, real‑estate agency, surf store and a restaurant. Surf beaches 1, 2 and 3 are located here, with the Venus Bay Surf Life Saving Club at No. 1 Beach. The nearby community centre offers programs for all ages, including holiday activities and a shuttle bus service during summer.

The Second Estate leads to Doyle’s Road foreshore reserve and Point Smythe nature trails, offering secluded beaches, wildlife discovery and scenic walks on both shores.

Venus Bay is primarily accessed by car via the Inverloch–Venus Bay Road (C442). Public transport options are minimal, with most residents commuting by private vehicle. The nearby town of Inverloch provides bus and rail connections to Melbourne.

Venus Bay is renowned for its natural coastal beauty, including surf beaches, wetlands, dunes and nature reserves. Residents have successfully preserved these landscapes by resisting large‑scale development proposals. Outdoor recreation is central to local life, with popular activities including walking the boardwalk to Tarwin Lower and cycling events such as the Tour de Tarwin.

Venus Bay is ideal for buyers seeking a coastal, low‑density community with strong environmental values. The relaxed pace, scenic access and small‑town infrastructure make it attractive for retirees, stay‑cationers and second‑home owners.
