A record-breaking double despite the lockdown

There was never any doubt in anyone’s minds that the strong buyer demand we’ve been reporting throughout 2021 would make its presence felt as soon as the lockdown restrictions were eased at midnight on Thursday.

The full impact of the pent-up buyer interest, however, would have surprised many. Not only did both of this Saturday’s scheduled auctions sell, (one before the auction and one on the day), but the results were at a level that would have thrilled any local homeowners considering selling in the next month or two!

One of this week’s auctions involved a potential-filled four-bedroom home at 167 Main Street in Thomastown West, a popular pocket with two Primary Schools within a short walk. This property generated such strong interest that the vendors decided to accept a convincing early offer of $725,000 during the week rather than waiting for Saturday’s scheduled auction.

The result that has got everyone in Thomastown talking, however, centred around a well-maintained three-bedroom home at 1 Johnson Street, Thomastown. Marketed as ‘a Thomastown classic’, this conveniently located home attracted enormous interest from a range of first home buyers and investors. A fiercely contested auction saw seven different bidders competing, (and several others who didn’t get the chance to raise their hands), pushing the price to an extraordinary $780,000. This was $130,000 or 20 per cent above our ecstatic vendors’ reserve!

You may not be able to see the smiles on everyone’s faces in the photo, but behind those masks are some incredibly happy families who are looking forward to taking the next step in their life plan.

One thing is very clear from multiple results like these…while the eased restrictions this week have meant that home buyers need to take a few extra steps to stay safe when inspecting properties for sale, it hasn’t slowed down the remarkable buyer demand.

So, if you are considering selling in the City of Whittlesea in the next few months, be sure to give us a call at Barry Plant Thomastown where we are happy to discuss how you can also achieve a result that gets the whole neighbourhood talking. Why not give us a call this week on 9466 3233.

Cheers,

Con Constantinou
