Golden Square has a population of about 8800 and is a part of Greater Bendigo. The suburb is located close to Bendigo, with easy access to a variety of eateries, shops and amenities of every type.
The local Golden Square swimming pool was built in 1918. Australian Rules Football has played a big part in the community with many players making it into the national competition.
The City of Bendigo places a strong emphasis on identifying, protecting, maintaining and promoting its cultural heritage to ensure that as Golden Square grows and develops, the special character of the local area is retained, protected and enhanced. Between July and August 2020, the City sought feedback from the Golden Square community about what types of physical and cultural heritage are valued, worthy of recognition or should be celebrated.
