Silvans biggest event would be the internationally popular Tesselaar Tulip Festival. Held for 2 weeks each spring, the festival showcases brightly coloured tulip fields along side a mix of art, culture, food, music and entertainment.
The Silvan Reservoir, aka Silvan Dam, is not only the regions water supply managed by Melbourne Water, but its location offers a picturesque park featuring landscaped gardens, picnic areas, open lawns, a playground and is surrounded by a eucalypt forest. You can stretch the legs along the Grey Gum Track if you like a walk amongst the trees.
The town itself is small and hosts a service station, a post office, fruit and vegetable store and a small Primary School. Silvan also has a Football and Cricket Club.
As the suburb is predominantly farming, there are an abundance of flower stalls, nurseries, flower farms, some of which incorporate cafes.
