Barry Plant Group chief executive Mike McCarthy had to check the June sales figures twice to make sure he was seeing correctly. While many other Melbourne agents were reporting a slow month, the Barry Plant group posted 102 more sales than in June of 2011 - an increase of 15.9 per cent. Ten of the 80-plus Barry Plant offices reported a record month. Mr McCarthy said it was clear the real estate market was still very active in Melbourne's south-eastern and north-western growth corridors. "We have made more sales in the first half of 2012 than we did for the corresponding period in 2011, which is a great result in a challenging market. We also had a 7.9 per cent increase in the total value of properties sold over June 2011, so from those figures alone, as far as we're concerned, the market is quite buoyant".
