Two members of the Barry Plant Group were recognised for their outstanding contribution to real estate at the 2014 REIV Awards, with Mark Di Giulio and Fiona Nicholson, both from Barry Plant Doncaster East, awarded Residential Salesperson of the Year and Corporate Support Person of the Year respectively.

Mark Di Giulio has chalked up some impressive sales figures along with a string of professional awards this year, he attributed his success to a combination of factors including a commitment to excellence in customer service, personal humility, and his support of other team members.

A key ingredient in Mark’s success is his willingness to lift customer service to the next level for Barry Plant’s clients, paying special attention to those with challenging circumstances.

“Meeting a client’s expectations is not enough,” Mark said. “Unless we can actually surprise a client with the service we provide, we haven’t earned their future recommendation.”

Throughout his career, Mark has benefited from the mentorship of his Director, Spiro Drossos, and now feels honoured to be in a mentoring role with his own team. “I have dedicated a substantial amount of time this year to working with other members of the sales team in a mentoring and training role,” Mark said. Mark’s sales style exemplifies a new era in real estate, in which customers seek out trustworthy agents who are willing to help them move into the next stage of their lives.

“Humility is the key in real estate today,” Mark said. “People are looking for an advisor and friend, and they recognise Barry Plant as a trusted, family-oriented brand.” Mark added that the Barry Plant Group’s impeccable systems, and the support he receives from Head Office, have been integral to his success.

“I would encourage anyone who is thinking of getting into real estate to join the Barry Plant Group,” Mark said.

Fiona Nicholson’s journey with Barry Plant began in 1989, when she joined the Doncaster East office as a receptionist, with Mr Barry Plant as her mentor. “Barry was my first role model and I still call on him for advice,” Fiona said.

Fiona learned from her mentor that a business can be successful without extravagant assets or facilities, but it can never succeed without clients. This belief has been the cornerstone of her dealings with clients ever since. Regardless of competing deadlines, Fiona’s willingness to listen makes others feel that they are important and that their situation is of a high priority.

Having risen from her original role to become Office Manager of the most successful office in the entire Barry Plant network, Fiona said her achievement is due to dedication, years of service, and versatility of skills. “I also receive major support from my Directors” she added.

“The Barry Plant network is so supportive; no-one is left behind,” Fiona said. “There’s such a diversity of expertise within Head Office, and you can call on them for advice and support any time. That’s why the group is so successful.”
