The Annual Barry Plant Conference, held from 8-12 June in Shanghai, China, was the perfect venue for delegates to benefit from first class guest speakers, provide relevant and up to date training and help facilitate ideas exchange within the group.

The annual Leadership Conference is just one of the many opportunities Barry Plant provides senior people in their group to strategise ways to revitalise their businesses and take them to the next level of success.

The Conference was well attended with over 110 registrations of delegates, families and valued suppliers. There was a day and a half of conference sessions with two guest speakers; Tom Panos, the Real Estate Advertising Director of News Limited and one of Sydney’s leading real estate auctioneers, and Real Estate Coach and Trainer Phil Harris, Managing Director of Harris Real Estate and the only real estate professional in Australia to have won both the REI South Australian Salesperson of the Year and the Golden Gavel Auctioneering Championships.

Tom spoke passionately about ‘Best Practice from Australia’s Leading Directors’ whilst Phil covered the highly topical area ‘The Best Ideas for Growth and Emerging Trends and Current Reality’.

The Conference also held a valuable session with Mr Xue, Chief Executive Office, Ming Ming Real Estate Group who has 180 offices in Shanghai. Mr Xue provided a fascinating insight into the real estate scene of a city of 23 million people in a country that was closed to the outside world until 1998. As Mr Xue did not speak English, Michael Yang from ourproperties.com.au (Gi-Fang) provided the translation. However this was no barrier to the conference attendees gleaning valuable information on the growing appetite of Chinese people for Australian real estate.

Delegates had the opportunity to undertake a program of team building and social activities. It not only allowed them to network with their peers but also allowed them to truly explore a city of sky scrapers and ancient culture. Highlights included a five star dinner on the famous Bund, a trip to the tallest observation tower in the world with its famous glass floor and a treasure hunt that involved motor bikes and side cars, a bartering challenge in a copy market and a subway experience.

As one Barry Plant delegate observed “This year’s conference certainly provided me with a wealth of nuts and bolts information on growing my business as well as providing me with the opportunity to network with and learn from my peers – a group of very successful people!”
