This year we have had two football clinics where Melbourne Victory players and support staff spend time explaining and demonstrating the skill and subtlety of soccer (okay, for the purists out there – football) to the upcoming generation of kids.

Over 70 boys and girls from ages 8 to 12 now have a great passion for the sport and many have stars in their eyes from meeting their heroes.

On the 8th of February Victory players Ante Covic, Billy Celeski, Tom Pondeljak and Jean Carlos Solorzano met with a group of eager youngsters at Rowville Football Centre. There was an hour skills clinic and wow, there are some talented kids out there. After the clinic the local Rotary Club, ably aided by Brenton Wilson and Anthony Johnson, put on a barbeque while the players signed their special Barry Plant ~ Victory team posters.

On the 13th February Ante Covic, Billy Celeski, Tom Pondeljak, Jimmy Jeggo and Luke O’Dea spent time with a group of lucky kids at the George Cross Football Club in Sunshine. Jim Hatzimoisis and his team were on hand to make sure everything went smoothly and to take the opportunity to form relationships with all the parents who came along.

We’ve held three Melbourne Victory clinics now, and they’ve all been wonderful events for the children and parents who attended. As business opportunities they are gold. The perfect time to meet local people in a relaxed, friendly environment. And when they want to sell their home… who they gonna call? I’d put money on Barry Plant being in the mix.
