Buyer activity was strong last weekend, with multiple bidders fronting up to auctions across the state.

Six young families competed for the keys to a four-bedroom townhouse in Bentleigh in front of a “ginormous” crowd of about 200 people.

Bidding kicked off at $2.1m before offers quickly flew up to $2.3m, at which point the 1B Uonga Rd home was called on the market. It eventually sold for $2.43m.

O'Brien Real Estate Bentleigh auctioneer Harrison Mosley said quality, turnkey homes were still selling well and buyer activity was “really competitive” across the board.

Another huge result was an 820sq m block of land in Blairgowrie, which also had six bidders at its auction last Saturday.

The 80 Fawkner Ave property flew a whopping $685,000 over the $1.025m reserve to reach an impressive $1.71m sale.

Barry Plant chief executive Mike McCarthy said he was seeing a lot of buyers bidding at auctions with plenty of properties selling above reserve.

“If stock levels stay low I think we’ll continue to see strong results,” Mr McCarthy said.

His group inked multiple sales under the hammer last weekend, including an “empty shell” brick veneer house at 25 Wedge Cres, Rowville.

The three-bedroom home soared $134,000 above reserve to reach a $754,000 sale after a competitive auction with 10 bidders.

A two-bedroom villa in Essendon North also surpassed its reserve by $50,000 when a buyer who had never seen the 1/10 Orange Grove property “rocked up” to the auction and placed the winning $850,000 offer, outbidding four other buyers.

And in Ivanhoe, a five-bedroom mid-century inspired home notched a $365,000 premium after five bidders pushed offers up to $2.5m, when it was called on the market.

Barry Plant Ivanhoe partner James Goulopoulos handled the $2.865m sale of 367 Upper Heidelberg Rd.

A four-bedroom Eltham home at 135 Arthur St also scored a $208,000 bonus after four buyers pushed offers up to a $1.458m sale.
