Have you, or someone in your family, ever considered giving calisthenics a try? Indeed, perhaps you’ve heard of calisthenics before, but aren’t really sure what it is?

In case you’re wondering, calisthenics is a team sport where pupils learn routines choreographed to music and present them on stage at competitions and concerts via controlled exercises, such as dancing, figure marching and singing. Some students may also choose to participate in solo or duo competitions.

In the City of Moonee Valley, we are well serviced for those who participate in Calisthenics. In fact, young girls in our area are lucky to have access to Avonde Calisthenics College, which is one of Australia’s longest running premium clubs. The girls at Avonde compete in all sections of the Championship Division in Melbourne.

The club was established in 1965 and rapidly gained a reputation as a club that is vibrant, competitive and strives for excellence. This quality is regularly demonstrated throughout the year at state level competitions plus, with a number of club representatives (both coaches and performers) competing at the Victorian State Team level.

Avonde Calisthenics College is located at 583 Keilor Road in Niddrie. Importantly, next Saturday, (November 17th), they are opening their doors from 9:30am to 2:30pm to enable locals to come and see what calisthenics is all about. The college welcomes all ages and levels ranging from the ‘Tinies’ (aged 3 to 5 years), through to ‘Masters’ level (aged 26 years plus).
