The decision to introduce our latest ‘circuit-breaker’ lockdown on Thursday night certainly had plenty of Melbourne residents scrambling to achieve all sorts of goals before the arrival of the midnight deadline.

For some, it meant heading for the border to ensure they didn’t miss their holiday plans. For others, there was a rush to the shops…yes, even for toilet paper! But for a number of homeowners who had been building towards an auction on their home this weekend, there was a decision to be made. Do we do our auction online, do we postpone it, or do we move it forward to get in ahead of the lockdown deadline?

Fortunately, our team at Barry Plant Gladstone Park has become extremely adept at reading the market and making informed decisions on how to best maximise a vendor’s result when the market throws a curveball. So there was no real hesitation in getting on the phone and alerting all of the interested buyers that we were bringing the auction of a two-bedroom villa in Wright Street, Westmeadows forward to Thursday evening.

Despite the short notice, we saw four determined bidders competing in the twilight, pushing the price to a remarkable $550,000. In fact, this was a new price record for a two-bedroom, one-bathroom unit in Westmeadows. As you can see from the photo, it was smiles all round after this exciting result.

As we mentioned last week, this week’s scheduled auction of a neat three-bedroom home in Cassandra Drive, Gladstone Park was another to reach an early conclusion, with a convincing early offer of $680,000 securing the keys.

Clearly, whilst the impact of the pandemic has certainly changed the way we all approach our daily lives, it hasn’t changed the fact that a lot of people in Melbourne are still very keen to make a move in the property market.

Therefore, if you’re keen to take the next step in your property journey, the team at Barry Plant Gladstone Park is ideally placed to help you to achieve this goal. If you’d like to chat about your options, feel free to give us a call this week on 9330 1088.

Remember, we’re here to help.
