Another 100% result in Northcote
There’s certainly been plenty of media coverage on interest rates this week, from the expected cut to official rates when the reserve bank meets this coming week, to the possibility of multiple cuts as the year progresses. It’s been good news for home buyers and homeowners alike, not the least of which are the first home buyers who have gained additional confidence from the thought of more affordable home loans.
So it was no surprise to see several first home buyers competing strongly at our auction in Northcote this weekend.
Set high on ever-popular Rucker’s Hill, the ground floor apartment (pictured) at 1/30 Mitchell Street in Northcote enjoyed a location that made the most of many of the attractions that make this area so highly sought after. As many of the prospective buyers commented on, the new owners will be able to walk to All Nations Park, Northcote Shopping Plaza, Northcote Aquatic Centre, the iconic Red Door Corner Store, the trams on High Street, Westgarth Primary School and Dennis station. It’s pretty much the inner-north lifestyle in a nutshell, isn’t it?
The apartment itself offered two bedrooms, a modern kitchen adjoining the light-filled living zone, two separate outdoor living spaces, secure intercom entry and more. An unexpected bonus was the bath rather than just a shower. Clearly, it was a combination that had appeal for several buyers, with at least five separate bidders competing at the auction and a few more who didn’t get the chance to raise their hand. It was certainly a great result for all concerned.
The only negative for many of the buyers we are currently dealing with is that the sellers have been slower to respond to the positive news on interest rates than the buyers have. As this week’s result shows, there are lots of buyers are keen to purchase right now, but the shortage of new listings is stifling what would otherwise be strong activity levels in the inner-north.
