Big turnouts despite health restrictions

Make no mistake, the past few weeks have certainly been a challenging time for the Barry Plant team in Melbourne’s inner north. It seems that every time we open a newspaper, turn on the TV or a radio, or glance at a computer screen, the economic environment and expert advice on all things health-related seem to be changing.

However, we are pleased to say that throughout this period of uncertainty, our team has remained focused on keeping our clients up-to-date with what is happening in the local real estate market and ensuring that we continue to produce the results that our clients have come to expect from us.

Whilst we have put in place a number of precautions to ensure the safety of our team and the many members of the public we come into contact with, we are continuing to keep our activities as ‘normal’ as possible. So it was pleasing to see that the market itself is not being diminished by these trying times, with big crowds attending our auctions and some impressive numbers going through several of this week’s Open Houses as well. Clearly there are still lots of Melbourne residents who are keen to secure their next home if they can!

One telling example of this urgency occurred at our auction at 69 Wallace Street in Preston, (pictured). This classic Edwardian home had been totally transformed by a cutting-edge architectural reworking, resulting in a striking three-bedroom, two-bathroom home where double-height ceilings, open-plan living, and quality inclusions made a breathtaking impact on those who visited.

Opportunities to purchase homes of this nature in Preston are rare, particularly when they also offer city skyline views, so it was no surprise to see this week’s auction so well attended nor to see serious competition between four bidders producing such an outstanding sale price. At $1.23 million, our vendors were happy to see their reserve exceeded, whilst the successful buyers were happy to secure such an appealing slice of the market in Melbourne’s thriving inner north.

As we touched on last week, the key fact that everyone needs to remember is that despite the negativity in the media, there are still far more people trying to buy real estate than there are people prepared to sell it. The end result of this imbalance is clear.

Therefore, if you are considering making a move, don’t hesitate to give our team a call for a confidential discussion on how you can make the most of current market conditions.
