Here at Barry Plant Inner North we’ve been talking about the strength of the rebound in the property market in our part of Melbourne for quite some time.

However, if you ever wanted to see this rebound in living colour, you only had to be part of the crowd who watched on in amazement at this week’s auction of a classic cream clinker brick home in Northcote.

The property in question was 58 Bird Avenue in Northcote, a wonderful time capsule of mid twentieth century décor in that it was presented in almost original condition.

Of course, the location in Northcote was one of the big attractions here, being zoned to Northcote High School and Brunswick East Primary School and offering easy access to CERES and the Merri Creek parklands.

However, having openly published the reserve of $1.05 million during the week leading up to the auction, onlookers were surprised to see the opening bid made at the reserve, ensuring the property was ‘on the market’ right from the start.

They were even more astonished when, 38 bids later, the auctioneer’s gavel fell at the enormously pleasing figure of $1.4 million. That’s right, more than 30% above our ecstatic vendor’s reserve price! As you can see from the photo, all parties were extremely happy with the result!

We also had a timely reminder this week of the benefits that come from being a part of a network that genuinely ‘networks’. Our team was involved in the successful auction of a brand-new contemporary home in Bulleen. Working closely with our colleagues from the Barry Plant office in Doncaster East, our combined resources were able to bring about an outstanding sale at $1.34 million, which was a very pleasing conclusion to a very effective auction campaign.

The important fact for homeowners in Melbourne’s inner north is that many of the current pool of buyers will not be able to secure their next home before the end of the year. So, if you would like to discuss the best way to capitalise on this pent-up demand with a sale early in 2020, feel free to call our team.
