Different methods, but similar results

Obviously, the way we sell and lease real estate in Melbourne’s inner north has changed quite a bit recently. The banning of Open Houses, the restriction of property auctions to online platforms rather than in public gatherings, and the changes to the way we conduct property inspections have all meant some changes to the way produce results for our vendors and landlords.

What is really important, however, is to understand that we ARE still producing those results, and in some cases in numbers that might surprise many people who assumed that real estate had gone into hibernation.

On the sales side of the business, the team at Barry Plant Northcote and Preston has been able to negotiate several strong sales in the past week alone, even though the noise from the media was at its loudest. The fact is that there are still good numbers of Melbourne residents who are keen to buy their next home, particularly now that official interest rates are at their lowest level ever and likely to stay very low for quite some time.

From family home buyers and downsizers looking for modern low maintenance options to first home buyers looking to get their foot in the door and investors keen to secure their long-term financial future, the buyers are still buying despite Covid-19. The sale of a ground-floor apartment in Sheffield Street, Preston (pictured) was another example of this recent activity.

On the rental front, our team has had a huge month letting-wise, putting a big smile on the faces of numerous property owners who have had their fair share of concerns based on the media’s portrayal of ‘doom and gloom’ recently.

The thing we need to remember is that whilst the whole pandemic situation is impacting on the way we live our day-to-day lives, the population of Melbourne is STILL growing, and they all have to live somewhere, whether they buy it or they rent it. So the underlying foundations of the property market remain strong.

As we posted on social media earlier this week, “We’re still open for business, we’re just doing things differently”.

In these challenging times, there is no substitute for experienced advice from people who have ‘been there and done that’ in a wide variety of market conditions in the past. Whether you are considering buying, selling or leasing real estate in the inner north, you can call us any time.
