Local property market still generating attention

I hope this post finds you enjoying a relaxing Easter break. This extended weekend has certainly given the local property market a chance to catch its breath, but it was interesting to see the media continuing the recent run of articles focused on our local property market and the strength of demand that is driving it.

In case you missed it, Saturday’s Herald-Sun ran an article by Scott Carbines (pictured) headed “Home bargains still out there”, which pointed out that there are still some terrific opportunities for home buyers within our local property market.

The article said, “The number of affordable suburbs in Melbourne may be dwindling, but value can still be found if buyers look in the right places, experts say.”

The latest data from CoreLogic shows there were 97 Melbourne suburbs with a median house price of $600,000 or less, 43 with a median of $500,000 or less and just seven at $400,000 or less in the 12 months to December.

When you look at the unit market, there were 116 suburbs with a median price of $500,000 or less, 55 with a median of $400,000 or less and five at $300,000 or less.

Importantly for the local property market, suburbs in our area were among those highlighted in the article as key members of the list of areas buyers can still find some of Melbourne’s more affordable properties. Indeed, the City of Brimbank generally, and suburbs like Sunshine, Ardeer and Albion specifically, were all mentioned as areas offering buyers exceptional buying opportunities.
