First home buyers Spring into action

Based on the recent sales activity our team has been generating through Melbourne’s northern corridor, it seems likely that first home buyers and property investors will play a key role in this increased buyer demand.

In fact, we saw some recent data from Housing Australia which shows just how active the first home buyer market is in Melbourne right now. The figures show that uptake of the Federal Government’s ‘Help to Buy’ shared equity homebuyer scheme, where buyers are able to purchase a home with as little as a 2 per cent deposit, is stronger in Melbourne than any other area of Australia. Of the 4800 approvals of this scheme between December 2025 and June 2026, the top six areas gaining approvals were all in Melbourne Central or surrounding suburbs.

This level of confidence among first home buyers was also reflected in our team’s patient negotiations producing the first sale of the Spring this year on Edgars Road, Thomastown (pictured). This two-bedroom townhouse was sold to an excited market entrant who is looking forward to adding their own styling touches to a low maintenance home that enjoys a highly convenient location.

Not only will the new owner enjoy easy access to Edgar's Creek Trail which is ideal for walking or cycling to the Thomastown Recreation & Aquatic Centre, but both Primary and Secondary schools, and the shops, restaurants and trains are all within easy reach.
