For many people it probably feels like the festive season and all that goes with it was almost yesterday, yet here we are at the end of summer with the start of autumn now on our doorstep.

What many people may not be aware of is that autumn is actually considered the prime time to sell property in Australia by many keen market observers. Yes, spring is traditionally the season when the largest number of properties are offered for sale, but in many areas autumn tends to be the time when many of the best sales results are achieved. So the fact that the autumn of 2026 is kicking off on the back of a really solid finish to the summer market is a very good sign for anyone planning on making their next move in the coming months.

It’s not just me saying it either. Long term studies in the past by people like RP Data confirmed the success rate of autumn sales. One of the reasons for this is because history shows that with less properties on the market overall, autumn sellers avoid the high competition associated with spring while still seeing competition among buyers who are active after the summer holidays.

Of course, here in Melbourne the weather between March and May is usually favourable for showcasing gardens, maximising buyer interest.

Indeed, statistically speaking, property sales in March are often marked by above-average sale prices, making it an excellent time to sell.

If you’ve been following our recent sales results you will see that they reflect the positive mind-set among homebuyers around Melbourne right now.

So if you’re keen to find out what’s happening in your local market, or to talk about what might be possible in making your own move while conditions are favourable, why not give us a call at Barry Plant Thomastown this week on 9466 3233.

We’re more than happy to help.
