Property is well known as a clear and effective option for many people who are thinking about the best approach to ensuring they enjoy a secure and comfortable retirement. Yet, one of the most common questions that people ask us about is how to get started on this road, and how to put together a plan to maximise their results.

Now, as I often remind readers of these posts, we are not financial or investment advisors. That’s why we always recommend that people get experienced and objective advice when making this type of plan.

However, one piece of advice we often share with those clients who are starting out as investors is to start with the finish in mind. Simply put, if you start out by gaining a clear vision of where you want to end up, the steps down that road can become a whole lot clearer.

Just imagine if you were to create your own “road map” to financial security, and you knew exactly where you wanted to get to, then charting a course to avoid all the hurdles that you DON’T WANT gets a whole lot easier, particularly with the right guidance and advice along the way.

One way to do this is to imagine yourself retired, and looking back over your journey. Ask yourself what you wish you’d done differently. Your path forward will immediately become clearer.
