Summer auctions kick off with a bang

Clearly securing their next home before Christmas was right at the top of many people’s wish list, as our first auction for the Summer saw some of the most competitive bidding we’ve experienced all year.

As I have mentioned in SEVERAL RECENT POSTS, our team at Barry Plant Thomastown has just completed a very active Spring, and that trend continued into the Summer despite the rain.

The property in question was a neat three-bedroom/two-bathroom home at 33 Chappell Street in Thomastown. Set amidst established gardens in a location that provided easy access to shops, cafes, schools and trains, this warm and inviting home attracted interest from home buyers and investors, as well as few local builders who liked the good sized 670sqm block.

Despite the uninviting weather, we had three main bidders competing at the auction, along with some other interested buyers who did not get the chance to raise their hands. The bidding duel produced a total of 64 separate bids…yes, you read that correctly…64 bids; with the gavel eventually falling at a remarkable $966,500.

This result was obviously a LONG way above our ecstatic vendor’s reserve, but as you can see from the photo, the smiles on our successful buyers were equally radiant at the end of this competitive auction!

The key lesson here for anyone still considering selling is that you haven’t missed the boat. Clearly, there are two very disappointed buyers from this week’s auction who would still love to buy before Christmas, just as there will be more buyers coming into the market over the next few weeks if you’d like to sell in January.
