Let me start our first Market Update for 2026 by extending the best wishes for the New Year from all of our team at Barry Plant Thomastown.

Now, the good news if you’re one of the many Victorian homebuyers who have been focusing on our part of Melbourne as the area you’d like to secure your next home in, or perhaps if you’re one of the lucky people who have already secured the keys to a home here, it seems that there are a number of property experts who agree with your choice.

In case you missed it, there was an article on page 24 of the Herald-Sun this Saturday, (January 3rd, 2026), which sought the opinion of a couple of well-known property industry experts on where they thought the property market hot spots would be in 2026. Interestingly, a couple of suburbs in our particular part of Melbourne’s northern corridor featured prominently.

For example, Cate Bakos (the Chairwoman of the Property Investment Professionals of Australia) mentioned Lalor as one of the best ranked Melbourne suburbs for investment in 2026. In the same article, Frank Valentic from Advantage Property Consulting, (who many readers will know from ‘The Block’), named Reservoir as one of his investment hot spots for the year ahead.

Whilst many people, myself included, tend to be a little sceptical about the accuracy of forecasts on something as dynamic as the property market, I think it’s fair to say that when two separate forecasts both nominate this pocket of Melbourne it’s worth noting.

Thus, whether you are looking to sell in order to capitalise on the demand for property in this area or to buy in an area with a positive outlook for future growth, (or perhaps both), the year ahead is looking promising indeed.

So if you would like some experienced and objective guidance to assist with your property planning, our office at Barry Plant Thomastown will be open to assist you from 9am Monday, January 5th. Don’t hesitate to give us a call on 9466 3233.

In the meantime, stay cool.

Best wishes,

Con Constantinou
