What are buyers searching for?

That headline might raise a few eyebrows, I know, particularly when we all know that every homebuyers is different (just as every home is different).

However, I thought it might be interesting to go behind the scenes by looking into the key word searches on Australian real estate websites to gain some insights into the priorities of today’s homebuyers.

One of the most used websites has done some analysis of the most popular keywords used by buyers throughout 2025. Whilst some will not come as a surprise to anyone, I’m sure, there are certain trends that become evident when you look at them as a whole.

For example, the most popular key word search of all is the swimming pool. Now, not everyone wants a pool, but it’s certainly a popular asset for quite a few buyers, particularly those with children. However, when you add in the fact that outdoor living areas and balconies are both among the top ten searches, it becomes clear that outdoor living and entertaining is important to a large number of Australian home buyers.

Another interesting stat is that whilst several modern-day creature comforts are ranked in the top ten, like an ensuite or a dishwasher, air conditioning is ranked well above heating as a priority.

For those with a close interest in overall design features, it is also worth noting that single-storey homes were ranked at number six on the list, whilst those wondering about the role of the motor car in modern day living will be intrigued to know that a garage is still the second most searched feature.

Of course, if you are currently considering selling in this active autumn property market and you are wondering how the features of your own property will be viewed by today’s home buying public, the easiest way is to give us a call at Barry Plant Thomastown and arrange for one of our team to provide you with an obligation-free (and cost-free) appraisal of your property.

Given the strength of the current market in Melbourne’s northern corridor, you might be pleasantly surprised what is possible with the right strategy in place. So feel free to give us a call this week on 9466 3233.

Best wishes,

Con Constantinou
