ABOUT CARNEGIE

Carnegie is a vibrant and highly sought-after residential suburb located approximately 12 kilometres southeast of the Melbourne CBD. Known for its eclectic energy and seamless blend of period charm and modern urban living, it has become a premier destination for young professionals, families, and students.

The suburb is defined by its bustling commercial heart along Koornang Road, its lush parklands, and its status as a major transit-oriented community.

The lifestyle in Carnegie revolves around the famous Koornang Road shopping strip, which is widely regarded as one of Melbourne’s best multicultural dining destinations. This precinct offers a global culinary tour, ranging from authentic Korean BBQ and Russian delicatessens to trendy brunch spots and artisanal bakeries. For recreation, residents frequent the expansive Packer Park, which features a velodrome, adventure playgrounds, and sports ovals. The local library and community centre serve as a modern social hub, while the proximity to Caulfield Racecourse adds a unique sporting dimension to the area.

Significant transformation is currently underway through the Victorian Government’s Activity Centres Program. As of late 2025, Carnegie has been designated as a priority hub in the "Carnegie-Oakleigh Cluster." This initiative is finalising new planning controls to support increased housing density near the station, utilising a "core and catchment" model. This allows for taller, mixed-use buildings in the central commercial core while transitioning to townhouses and low-rise apartments in the surrounding 800-metre walkable catchment.

Education remains a fundamental pillar of the suburb, anchored by the high-performing Carnegie Primary School. Additionally, Carnegie’s location provides convenient access to Monash University’s Caulfield campus, fostering a diverse and intellectually vibrant local demographic.

Connectivity is one of Carnegie’s greatest assets. The Carnegie Railway Station, an elevated hub, provides a direct 20-minute commute to the CBD on the Pakenham and Cranbourne lines. Since the opening of the Metro Tunnel in late 2025, residents have benefited from a "turn-up-and-go" service that offers faster, direct links to the Parkville medical and university precinct and the city's northern fringe. The suburb is also well-served by the Route 67 tram and a comprehensive bus network, ensuring easy access to the nearby Chadstone Fashion Capital.

From a property perspective, Carnegie is a resilient and high-demand market. The housing stock is a desirable mix of beautifully restored California Bungalows, mid-century brick apartments, and a rapidly increasing selection of luxury new townhouses. Carnegie maintains a stable residential environment while adapting to meet the housing needs of a growing metropolitan population.
