ABOUT SOUTH YARRA

South Yarra is one of Melbourne’s most affluent and high-energy inner-city suburbs, located approximately four kilometres southeast of the CBD. Spanning the Cities of Melbourne and Stonnington, it is defined by a sophisticated blend of heritage grandeur and high-density modern living.

The lifestyle in South Yarra is anchored by the world-famous Chapel Street and Toorak Road precincts.

For recreation, residents enjoy the heritage-listed Fawkner Park and the Royal Botanic Gardens, as well as the scenic Main Yarra Trail for cycling and running. The suburb's social heart is further bolstered by the iconic Prahran Market, which is currently undergoing a multi-year restoration (scheduled for completion in 2026) to enhance its facilities as Melbourne's premier food destination.

Infrastructure and planning are driving a "generational development boom" in the suburb. The most significant project is the $3.75 billion Jam Factory redevelopment, currently under construction and slated for completion around 2027. This massive project will introduce over 800 luxury residences, two hotels, and a world-class cinema complex to the Chapel Street strip. Additionally, the Forrest Hill precinct near South Yarra Station continues to evolve into a high-density "hipster hub" of creative offices and luxury apartments. Transit remains elite, with South Yarra Railway Station serving as a major junction and the recent 2025 integration of the Metro Tunnel significantly increasing rail capacity for the region.

Education is a cornerstone of the suburb’s prestige, attracting families who prioritize proximity to elite schools. South Yarra Primary School remains a high-demand government institution, frequently operating with strict neighborhood boundary zones. The suburb is also home to the prestigious Melbourne High School, an academically selective state school for boys. Residents also benefit from walking access to top-tier independent schools in neighboring districts, such as Christ Church Grammar and Melbourne Grammar School, fostering a stable, intellectually active community.

With its unique combination of historic mansions, ultra-luxury high-rises, and world-class retail, South Yarra remains one of the most stable and aspirational residential addresses in Australia.
