About Anakie

Anakie is a small, quiet, and historically rich rural township located on the northern fringe of the City of Greater Geelong, offering a tranquil, nature-focused lifestyle that serves as the primary gateway to the rugged beauty of the Brisbane Ranges National Park.

The identity of Anakie is deeply tied to its stunning natural setting. The town sits at the base of The Anakies, a cluster of three prominent hills that are an extension of the Brisbane Ranges, from which the locality is believed to derive its name (an Aboriginal expression possibly meaning 'little hill' or 'twin hills').

Residents enjoy direct access to the National Park, famous for its abundant native wildflowers, diverse birdlife, and a high concentration of koalas. The popular Anakie Gorge Scenic Reserve provides accessible bushwalking trails along Stony Creek. The area is predominantly characterised by large acreage and farming properties, providing space and privacy, with the community maintaining a quiet, country pace of life.

The property market in Anakie reflects its semi-rural nature, with large allotments being the norm, leading to a higher median price than many standard suburban properties in the Greater Geelong area. Prices vary significantly based on the size of the land/acreage.

Despite its rural setting, Anakie maintains connections to essential services and boasts a unique local landmark. The most famous local attraction is Fairy Park, Australia's oldest theme park, which sits on a scenic granite outcrop overlooking the town.

Anakie is only about 20-25 minutes drive north of the major retail, education (Deakin University), and medical facilities (Epworth Hospital) of Geelong. It also provides straightforward access to the Princes Freeway for travel to Melbourne.
