About Jackass Flat

A smaller yet inviting residential suburb north of Bendigo, which is highlighted by a beautiful nature conservation reserve, Jackass Flat is a newer area that has risen in popularity over the last decade.

The Town

Positioned just 6.5km north of the lively Bendigo township, Jackass Flat was barely a blip on the radar not too long ago. With a population of only 224 according to the 2006 census, the town has boomed with almost 2000 people living in it today. This number is set to expand over the coming years with the continued development of the residential Canterbury Estate. The median age of the Jackass Flat is quite a bit lower compared to the rest of the Bendigo region (28 years), however the percentage of family households is very high. To the south of the suburb just bordering North Bendigo, the Jackass Flat Nature Conservation Reserve is a 73.4 hectare parklands established in 1980 that is truly the highlight of the area.

What To Do

The Jackass Flat Nature Conservation Reserve is a scenic and expansive green space that is perfect for weekend walks or Sunday runs through mature trees. You may even spot some native wildlife along the way!

Where To Eat And Drink

Don’t let the name fool you; the Bush Pig Inn (109 Watson Street) is one seriously amazing pub. Classic in its style and welcoming when it comes to staff and general ambience, this charming establishment offers a huge roaring fireplace in one of the dining areas, which is the perfect backdrop as you enjoy a pot and parma while watching the footy. The Bush Pig Inn also has an outdoor area with huge firepit which is a sight to behold in winter. Technically part of North Bendigo but right next to the nature reserve, the Holdsworth Road Milk Bar (253 Holdsworth Road) is great for a lunch on the run, with their signature Sweet Chilli Tender Wrap sure to have you coming back for more!
