What To See

For those who don’t mind some bushwalking, fishing, and maybe a lazy picnic on the weekends, then Kennington Reservoir (2 Reservoir Road) is the spot for you. This picturesque body of water and surrounding parklands is known for its indigenous vegetation and walking tracks, while the area also has BBQ facilities and a fishing pier that allows you to catch some of the redfin and rainbow trout swimming in the waters. The Greater Bendigo National Park neighbours this charming suburb and is located on the traditional lands of the Dja Dja Wurrung People. From picnic areas to breathtaking lookouts, you might also see a wallaby, kangaroo, or echidna along the way.

Where To Eat And Drink

‘Eat drink enjoy’ is the motto of the Reservoir Hotel (160 Condon Street) and that’s exactly what you go there to do. With a sports bar, cocktail lounge, and extended dining and function room, the Rezzie offers an exciting menu including a ‘Parmi Bar’ (which features a variety of parmas including Mexican, Hawaiian, and Irish styles). Another favourite amongst the locals and right next door is the Kennington Tavern (150-158 Condon Street), which is lively on the weekends and offers a wonderful inside/outside feel including a laidback beer garden (the drinks menu is also a highlight!). If you’re a bit undecided on what you’re after for lunch or dinner, Kennington Shopping Village (150 Condon Street) has all your bases covered, with cheap and cherry Japanese and Vietnamese offerings, as well as a Guzman y Gomez and a bakehouse if you’re just wanting a sneaky sausage roll for the road.
